What is going with the different Video Formats?
On Dreamnet you will see 2 different video formats: WMV (Windows Media) & MP4 (MPEG 4). Windows media has been around for years and there should be no issue with it playing on your computer. However, recently some women have started to add MPEG4 videos to their site. MPEG4 is a new technology that works wonderful with today’s Hi-Def video cameras. It allows for a longer Hi-Def video in a smaller file size.
If you are having troble viewing MPEG4 (.MP4) files:
First, determine if your computer’s hardware can handle h.264 demands. As a general rule, 720p quality requires a minimum of an Intel 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 (OR 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo OR 1.8GHz PowerMac G5) with 512MB of RAM and a video card (or onboard video) with 64MB of RAM.
Windows Intel Machines: Install the CCCP Codec Pack from: http://www.cccp-project.net/ This will install Media Player Classic, which is compatible with the file format. Why doesn’t Windows Media Player like the format? Because Microsoft likes its own codecs and not the open-source ones that are cross-platform.
Mac Machines: You will need to install QuickTime 7 or higher. This means you most likely need to be running OSX 10.4 (Tiger) or higher. If you are running Tiger or higher, Perian is a great open source codecs that include everything you need. You can find it here: http://perian.org/
